I’m Oleksandra, or simply Sasha. That’s how my project, Sasha’s Quilts, got its name!

I am Ukrainian. I was born in a small town, but creativity led me to Lviv — one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine, rich in ancient history. I have never seen streets quite as lovely anywhere else, and I’ve been living here for more than half my adult life. You could say my heart chose this city.

Now, back to creativity! :-) I’ve loved fabric for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I would sew with anything I could get my hands on — starting, of course, with clothes for my friends’ dolls (sometimes in exchange for candy!). Art has always been my path: art school, a degree in Graphic Arts from the Ukrainian Academy of Printing, porcelain painting, copying classic paintings, fashion design, and collaging... and I’m sure I’m forgetting something!

However, the real birth of my quilting project happened when my son was born. Becoming a mother made me want to fill our home with a special kind of warmth, so I made a few pillows for the living room. New ideas kept popping up one after another, and I was so captivated by the process that I couldn’t stop. Once there were simply too many pillows for our home, I realized the only way to bring all my ideas to life was to share them with others.

I love animals and treat them with great respect, which is why you’ll find many animal-themed designs in my collection. I have a soft spot for insects and cats! In fact, the smartest cat in the world lives in my home — her name is Bulka.
